HSBC negatively affects the MSE EquityTotal Return Index

The MSE Equity Total Return Index closed in the red once again, this time by 0.054 per cent at 8,972.953 points.  A total of seven issues were active, of which three gained ground, two declined and another two closed unchanged. A total turnover of €241,070 was spread over 25 transactions.

HSBC Bank Malta plc was the major catalyst behind today’s decline as the equity depreciated by one per cent, to close at €1.901, albeit on low volume - 8,506 shares were exchanged over five transactions. Similarly, Tigne Mall plc was also at the negative end of the spectrum, as its share price registered a fall of 0.3 per cent. This fall was attained over a single trade worth less than €1,500.

Malta Properties Company plc’s equity headed the day’s list of gainers, having climbed by 2.9 per cent, to settle at €0.53. A total of 3,405 shares were exchanged across three trades. Although active over a single trade worth slightly less than €20,000, PG plc’s share price appreciated by 0.7 per cent. The price at the end of the session read €1.40.

Bank of Valletta plc was back again in the green as its share price increased by 0.2 per cent, to settle at €2.14. A total of nine transactions worth €64,540 were registered.

Elsewhere, albeit featuring in two trades worth €98,178 and four trades worth €39,153 respectively, GO plc and RS2 Software plc closed unchanged.

In the corporate debt market, a total of 13 issues were active during the session of which the majority closed higher, while fallers and non-movers tallied at four. The recently issued 4.5% Grand Harbour Marina plc Unsecured € 2027 outperformed all its peers, gaining three per cent to €103 on its first day of trading.   

Contrary to this, performance in the sovereign debt market was overwhelmingly negative, as out of a total of 11 active issues, seven headed south, three gained and one closed unchanged. Apart from being the most liquid issue, the 2.4% MGS 2041 (I) also registered the best performance, appreciating by 0.5 per cent to close at €103.80.
