Five equites drag the MSE index lower

MSE Daily Trading Report, October 10, 2017

The MSE Equity Total Return Index closed in the red for the third consecutive session as the index closed 0.269% lower at 8,957.785 points. A total of 10 equities were active of which five lost ground, while Malita Investments plc was the only gainer. A total turnover of €697,627 was generated among 29 deals.

Following yesterday’s traffic result announcement for the month of September, Malta International Airport plc took the lion’s share of total turnover as three deals worth €419,745 were executed. The equity closed the session at €4.549.

Abnormal turnover was also registered in International Hotel Investments plc shares as the equity generated a total turnover of €63,958 to close the session 0.7% lower at €0.60.

In the banking sector, HSBC Bank Malta plc (HSBC), Bank of Valletta plc (BOV) and Lombard Bank plc shares closed unchanged. A total of 37,325 HSBC shares were exchanged over six deals to close at €1.90. Meanwhile, BOV closed at €2.109 after touching a daily low of €2.10. Lombard shares traded once over a slim volume to close at €2.20.

In the telecommunications sector, GO plc finished the session in the red as the equity registered a decline of 1.5% to settle at €3.461. Meanwhile, in the oil and gas sector, Medserv plc shares also depreciated in value as the equity shaved 1.6%, to close the session at €1.24. Two trades of 69,000 shares were recorded.

In the property sector, both Malta Properties Company plc and Plaza Centres plc shares were down by 3.8% and 2.9% to close at €0.509 and €1.02 respectively. Meanwhile, Malita Investments plc was the only equity which closed in the green, closing 1.2% higher at €0.75.

In an announcement issued this morning, the directors of Maltapost plc will be meeting on December 11, 2017 to consider and approve the company’s financial statements for the year ended September 30, 2017.

The corporate debt market, witnessed little movement as out of the 15 active issues only six registered price movements. The 3.5% Simonds Farsons Cisk plc Unsecured € 2027 registered the highest increase of 0.8% to close the session at €103.99.

Meanwhile, in the sovereign debt market yields were generally higher as the Central Bank of Malta revised its bid prices lower. The 13-year 5.25% MGS 2030 bond shed 0.3% across three transactions of €314,529.
