Negative sentiment on MSE persists

MSE Daily Trading Report, October 11, 2017

The MSE Equity Total Return Index extended its streak of losses to four successive sessions as it fell by a further 0.515% to close at 8,911.668 points. A total of 59 transactions were executed across eight equities generating a turnover of €622,633.

The most notable change was that of Malta Properties Company plc which managed to reverse all of yesterday’s decline and post a gain of 4.13%. The equity reached the price of €0.53 as a result of five deals in which 26,170 shares changed hands.

More than 80% of the total turnover was generated by Bank of Valletta plc as 241,235 shares were traded over 37 trades. The outcome of these deals was a 0.43% decline in the share price, settling at €2.10. The other active Banking equity was HSBC Bank Malta plc which was another heavy drag on the index by trading at 2.63% lower. The equity closed at €1.85 after 12,069 shares were exchanged over six deals.

The worst performer however was PG plc as it shaved off 2.68% off its share price to close at €1.45. The two deals which were struck today generated a turnover of €10,040.

The telecommunications company GO plc pared some of the previous session’s loses, as it ended the session 0.32% higher. A total of five deals involving 8,502 shares caused the price to close at €3.472.

Santumas Shareholdings also had a strong session as its share price appreciated by 1.1% to finish the day at €2.20. A combined 10,766 shares were traded over just two deals.

MaltaPost plc moved 0.89% higher to close at €1.921. Simonds Farsons Cisk plc was also traded once but this did not have an effect on its price.

Malta Government Stocks registered mixed performances as out of the 11 stocks which were active, four closed higher and another four lost ground. The 4.3% MGS 2033 registered the largest price fluctuation as it edged 0.44% lower.

In the corporate bonds market 22 securities were traded, out of which nine strengthened and only three registered a downward movement. The 4.8% Bank of Valletta plc 2018 topped the list of gainers as it posted an advancement of 0.49%. Conversely, the 5% Tumas Investments plc Unsecured € 2024 was the worst performer as it fell by 0.47%.
