BOV continues its recovery as MSE index closes slightly higher

The MSE Equity Total Return Index traded marginally in positive territory as it gained 0.039%, closing at 8,605.02 points. In the equity market, 30 deals generated  turnover of €182,670. Two equities registered losses, however another four equities pushed the index into positive territory.

In the banking industry,Bank of Valletta plc led a positive charge by climbing 0.56% to continue its recent recovery. BOV was the most liquid equity as it generated a turnover of €75,334 over 12 deals, to close at €1.81. HSBC Bank Malta plc followed suit by posting a more modest gain of 0.05% to end the session at €1.861. The equity traded on somewhat slim volumes as 4,427 shares changed hands in just two transactions. Lombard Bank plc traded flat despite generating a turnover of €13,231.

The two most notable price fluctuations were both the result of slim trading volumes. GlobalCapital plc registered a loss in value of 4.76% to close at €0.34. This was the outcome of a sole deal in which €1,190 worth of shares were exchanged.

Similarly, a single deal involving 3,000 shares of Mapfre Middlesea plc notched the share price down by 4.42%, settling at €1.816.

On the other hand, another solitary transaction worth €1,958 in Simonds Farsons Cisk plc caused it to top the list of gainers as it appreciated by 1.6% to finish trading at €8.90.

MIDI plc advanced by 1.54% to close at €0.33, as a result of one deal in which 3,000 shares were traded.

GO plc, Malta International Airport plc and Malita Investments plc were responsible for over 40% of total turnover, however none of them experienced any movement in price.

In the sovereign debt market, performances were balanced out, as out of a total of 15 active issues, seven headed north while six closed lower. The 2.5% MGS 2036 (I) which was the most traded issue, was also the strongest performer, as it closed 0.29% higher closing at €108.47. The largest price change was registered by the 2.1% MGS 2039 (I) which was down by 0.79% to close at €100.70.

The corporate debt market expierenced mixed fortunes. From the 22 active bonds, eight experienced an upward movement while nine lost ground. Topping the list of gainers wasthe 5% Hal Mann Vella Group plc Secured Bonds € 2024 which advanced by 2.87% to close at €107. On the other hand, the 5.75% International Hotel Investments plc Unsecured € 2025 was the worst performer as it was devalued by 2.75% tp close at €105 .
