Negative investor sentiment persists as MSE index falls by 0.87%

MSE Daily Trading Report, November 30, 2017

The MSE Equity Total Return Index was once again dominated by selling pressure as it drifted a further 0.866% lower to close at 8,441.921 points. A turnover of €265,848 was generated over 43 deals spread across six different equities. Four equities closed lower while no equity was able to trade in positive territory.

In the Banking sector, Bank of Valletta plc shares dragged the index lower, as the equity traded 3.31% lower. The equity settled at a new price level of €1.75 after a total of 67,953 shares changed hands over 21 deals.HSBC Bank Malta plc was also a drag on the index as it drifted 0.59% lower to end the session at €1.84. This change was the outcome of five deals with a combined worth of €31,548.

A single deal involving 1,500 shares in Malta Properties Company plc notched the price 2.5% lower to close at €0.468.

RS2 Software plccontinued where it left off yesterday by posting further losses of 2.5% to finish trading at €1.521. This decline was the result of four transactions in which €11,153 worth of shares were exchanged.

Medserv plc andMalta International Airport plc closed unchanged despite generating a combined turnover of €101,723 over 12 deals.

Yields in the sovereign debt market continued to rise as all of the eight active issues, registered a decrease in price. The 5.5% MGS 2023 and the 2.4% MGS 2041 posted the largest price falls, both with a decline of 0.24%, closing at €128.87 and €105.62 respectively.

 

The corporate debt market registered mixed performances as five issues depreciated, ten experienced an upward movement, and four traded flat. The best performer was the 5.8% International Hotel Investments plc 2023 which climbed by 2.33% to close at €107.45. On the other side of the coin, the 3.5% Bank of Valletta plc € Notes 2030 S1 T1 was down by 0.45%, closing at €100.
