MSE Index up 0.8% as five equities close higher

The MSE Equity Total Return Index returned in positive territory as it soared by 0.775% cancelling out nearly all of the previous three days’ losses, closing at 8,639.077. In the equities market, five out of 11 active securities pushed the index higher while only one headed downwards. A turnover of €701,811 was generated over 31 transactions.

The banking sector was the major catalyst for the positive performance as the all three active equities posted gains. Bank of Valletta plc was up by 0.55% to €1.82 as a result of 11 transactions in which 38,341 shares were traded. Similarly, HSBC Bank Malta plc closed at €1.85, translating to a 0.54% increase in share price. This was the outcome of two deals of a combined 17,500 shares. FIMBank plc traded 0.83% higher as a single deal of 2,466 shares was executed at a price of $0.61.

RS2 Software plcgave up a small portion of yesterday’s gains as it was the only negative mover. The equity drifted 1.41% lower to €1.40 as trading volume totalled 5,400 shares over two deals.

International Hotel Investments plcwas the best performer of the session as it climbed by 6.9% to end the session at €0.62. A total of 16,000 shares changed hands across four deals.

A single transaction of 1,500 shares pushed the share price of MaltaPost plc 2.63% higher to reach the price of €1.95.

In the corporate debt market, a total of 14 issues were active over 27 deals. Six issues registered gains while four issues drifted lower. The 3.75% Premier Capital plc Unsecured € 2026 was the best performer as it climbed by 1.02%, closing at €104.50. The 4% International Hotel Investments plc Unsecured € 2026 registered the worst performance as it lost 0.63% in value, to close at €102.35.

The sovereign debt market registered a strong session as out of 10 active issues, eight traded higher and two declined. The 4.5% MGS 2028 was the strongest performer of the session as it closed 0.25% higher, to close at €130.88. The short-dated 7.8% MGS 2018 however posted a loss of 0.4% to close at €102.51.
