MSE index returns to negative territory

MSE Daily Trading Report, April 19, 2017

The MSE Equity Return Index returned to negative territory today as it registered a 0.08% loss to close at 8,532.601 points. A sizable turnover of €803,376 was generated over 92 deals in the equities market. Out of 12 active equities, four registered declines, while three posted gains.

In the banking industry, HSBC Bank Malta plc recovered yesterday’s loss as it advanced 1.19% to close at €1.70. A total of 11,687 shares were exchanged over four deals.

Conversely, the gain registered by Bank of Valletta plc in the previous session proved unsustainable as the share price retracted back to the €1.77 price level.

In the same sector,FIMBank plc closed unchanged at €0.55 despite a turnover of €1,485.

A sole deal of 1,100 International Hotel Investments plc shares shaved 0.81% off the share price, down to €0.615.

RS2 Software plcposted a gain of 0.72% to €1.39 over a couple of deals of a combined 15,000 shares.

In the insurance sector, Mapfre Middlesea plc was the worst performer of the session as it closed 2.86% lower at €2.04 after trading just once on slim volume.

A single transaction of 3,500 Tigne Mall plc shares, reversed yesterday’s gain as the equity lost 0.53% in value to return to €0.95.

Similarly, another transaction of just 300 shares dragged the price of Simonds Farsons Cisk plc down by 0.74% to €6.75.

The sovereign debt market had a mixed session as out of the nine active issues, four traded lower and three headed north. The most notable price decline was a 0.15% drop in the price of the 2.1% MGS 2039. On the other hand, the 4.3% MGS 2033 climbed 0.22%.

On the corporate debt front, 15 issues were active, two of which increased in value while four edged lower. Topping the list of fallers was the 5% GlobalCapital plc Unsecured € 2021 whichwas down by 2.74%. On the other side of the spectrum, the 4.5% Hili Properties plc Unsecured € 2025 edged 0.28% higher.
