Equities lower as bonds gain

MSE Daily Trading Report, April 20, 2018

The MSE Equity Total Return Index continued on its negative path as it posted a loss of 0.037% to 8,529.407 points. In the equity market nine securities were active, but only four recorded price movements, three of which closed lower. A total turnover of €145,838 was generated over 24 deals.

In the banking industry, all four equities were active, but all closed unchanged. Bank of Valletta plc was the most liquid equity as a turnover of €103,461 was generated over 14 transactions. FIMBank plc traded twice as 27,764 shares were exchanged while both HSBC Bank Malta plc and Lombard Bank Malta plc recorded one transaction on slim volume.

RS2 Software plcadvanced 0.72% to close at a price of €1.40. The equity traded twice as 7,000 shares changed hands.

The worst performer of the session was MaltaPost plc which lost 2.7% in value to close at €1.80. Trading volume amounted to jut 2,220 shares over one trade.

A single transaction of 5,000 PG plc shares dragged the price of the equity down by 0.76% to €1.30

Similarly in the property sector, Trident Estates plc registered a sole deal of 550 shares, executed at a price of €1.84, translated in a decline in value of 0.54%.

Its peer, Malta Properties company plc traded flat at €0.458 across one transaction on slim volume.

Yields in the sovereign debt market were up as from the 11 active issues, all posted losses with the exception of the 2.1% MGS 2039 which traded flat. The largest price movement was registered by the5.25% MGS 2030 which traded 0.67% lower.

In the corporate debt market, ten issues were active, half of which closed unchanged, while gainers amounted to four and just one issue closed slightly lower. The most notable price change was a 0.43% rise in the price of the 4% Stivala Group Finance plc Secured € 2027 which closed at €104.45.
