Seven equities drag MSE Index lower

MSE Daily Trading Report, May 7, 2018

The MSE Total Return Index declined by 0.204% today, closing the session at 8,453.573 points. This was the result of negative performances by seven equities, compared to just two equities which posted gains, and another three which closed unchanged. A total turnover of €311,423 was generated across 55 deals.

Bank of Valletta plc was one of the few gainers as its share price put on 0.58% to close at €1.74. The equity was the most liquid as 49,398 shares changed hands over 20 deals.

Also in the banking industry, Lombard Bank plc moved in the opposite direction by 0.85% to €2.34 after a couple of trades of a combined 1,000 shares.

HSBC Bank Malta plc was also active on slim volume but it closed unchanged at €1.73.

In the property sector, MIDI plc advanced by 0.56% to reach €0.36. The equity traded four times as 66,500 shares were exchanged.

Medserv plcwas the worst performer of the session as two trades of 15,000 shares dragged the price down by a significant 4.55%, to close at €1.05.

RS2 Software plcfollowed suit as it drifted 3.08% lower to €1.26. Trading volume totalled 12,000 across three trades.

Retail conglomerate PG plc traded somewhat heavily as  54,000 shares changed ownership across five deals. The outcome was a 0.76% decline in price to €1.30.

Similarly, Malta International Airport plc posted a modest loss of 0.41%, down to €4.82. The equity generated a turnover of €66,238 over nine transactions.

Global Capital plc lost 3.03% in value to €0.32 as it registered two trades on slim volume.

A single transaction of 254 MaltaPost plc shares,shaved 1.11% off the share price as it closed at €1.78.

Yields in the sovereign debt market were generally higher as 11 issues were down, while the remaining six active issues posted gains. The 2.2% MGS 2035 (I) registered the strongest performance with a 0.21% increase in price to €105.33. The 4.8% MGS 2028 (I) on the other hand topped the list of fallers as it drifted 0.63% lower to €134.

In the corporate debt market, 16 issues were active but only five registered price movements. Four bonds closed higher while the 5% Mediterranean Investments Holding plc Unsecured € 2022 was the only negative mover, declining by 1.73% to €102.20. The 3.75% Premier Capital plc Unsecured € 2026 registered the largest increase during the session, as the bond appreciated by 1.26%, to €104.30.
