MSE index posts a significant decline

MSE Daily Trading Report, July 09, 2018

The MSE Total Return Index continued where it left off last week,as it closed0.935% lowerat 8,630.864 points. Out of a total of 11 active issues, two gained ground, while seven headed south. A total turnover of €289,083 was generated over 47 transactions.

In the banking industry, Bank of Valletta plc posted a modest gain of 0.29%,to close at €1.75. Trading volume amounted to 50,768 shares across 20 trades.

HSBC Bank Malta plc traded five times,as 35,430 shares were exchanged, however, the equity closed unchanged at €1.84.

Lombard Bank Malta plc headed the list of fallers,as it sank a sizeable 11.4% to a price of €2.02. This was the result of a couple of deals of 11,067 sharesin total.

In the food and beverage industry, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc was up 0.7% to €7.20,as 2,780 shares changed hands in a single transaction.

International Hotel Investments plc fell by 7.58% to €0.61, as a sole deal of 500 shares was recorded.

Similarly, a single transaction of 28,000 Loqus Holdings plc shares shaved 7.14% off the share price to close at €0.065.

MaltaPost plc shares also closed the session in negative territory, as 10,558 shares traded over 10 deals. The outcome was a 0.6% decline inprice as it settled at €1.65.

MIDI plc traded rather heavily,as eight transactions of a combined 88,970 shares,were all executed at a price of €0.488, translating to a loss in value of 0.41%.

Meanwhile, Malita Investments plc fell 2.25%, to close the session at €0.87. A total turnover of €21,750 was generated over two transactions.

Also in the property sector, a couple of transactions in which 1,360 Trident Estates plc shareswere transacted,dragged the share price down by 1.53%, to end the session at €1.29.

Elsewhere, Mapfre Middlesea plc was also active on slim volume, but this activity had no bearing on the share price.

The Malta Government Stocks expierenced a negative session, as out of the eight active issues six declined, while only one one traded in positive territory. The 5% MGS 2021 (I) was in fact the sole issue which closed in the black, adding on a minimal 0.02% to its price, to close at €114.99. The 2.1% MGS 2039 (I) was the  worst performer of the session,as it was down by 0.46%,toclose at€101.42.

In the corporate debt market, a total of 15 issues were active of which; four gained ground, while five closed in negative territory. The 5.1% 6PM Holdings plc Unsecured € 2025 recovered a portion of last week’s losses,as it closed 2.1% higher at €94.90. Meanwhile, the 5.1% 1923 Investments plc Unsecured € 2024 and the 4.35% SD Finance plc Unsecured € 2027 registered the weakest performances during the session – both losing 0.48% of their value, to close at €103 and €104 respectively.
