MSE Index bounces back from recent losses

MSE Daily Trading Report, July 11, 2018
The MSE Equity Total Return Index partially recovered yesterday’s losses as it closed 0.468% higher at 8,660.684 points. A total of eight issues were active during the session, of which three gained ground and two closed lower.
In the banking industry, Bank of Valletta plc climbed 0.57% to a price of €1.76. Trading activity in the equity was uncharacteristically low as just 8,018 shares traded across five deals.
Its peer, HSBC Bank Malta plc closed flat at €1.84, following nine trades worth €23,656.
The telecommunications company GO plc posted a solid gain of 4.24%, reaching the €3.44 price mark as a sole deal of 1,000 shares was struck.
Conversely, a single transaction of 13,110 Malita Investments plc shares dragged its price down by 2.3% to €0.85.
In the retail sector, PG plc traded flat at a price of €1.33, translating into a price gain on the day of 0.76%. A total of 60,000 shares were exchanged over three trades.
Main Street Complex plc was down by 0.75%, to end the session at €0.665. A total of four transactions generated a combined turnover of €11,745.95.
Elsewhere, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc and International Hotel Investments plc were also active, despite failing to register any price movements.
The Sovereign Debt market had a very positive session, as only two out of the 15 active issues lost ground, while 13 registered an increase in value. The 2.1% MGS 2039 (I) and the 2.4% MGS 2041 registered the strongest gains, both advancing by 0.38%, to close the session at €101.89 and €106.90, respectively. Meanwhile, the 4.1% MGS 2034 (I) registered the weakest performance, as the bond price closed 0.17% lower at €131.68.
In the corporate debt market, activity was spread across 19 issues, of which gainers and fallers amounted to six each. The 3.5% Bank of Valletta plc € Notes 2030 S1 T1 was the weakest performer during the session as the bond price decreased by 0.99%, to close the session at par. Meanwhile, the 4% MIDI plc Secured € 2026 appreciated by 0.78%, to close at €103.80.
