MSE Index recovers previous session’s loss

MSE Daily Trading Report, October 10, 2018

The MSE Equity Total Return Index recovered yesterday’s decline as it gained 0.563% to end the session at 8,820.259. A total of 17 equites were active of which nine registered a gain, while another three declined. A substantial turnover of €533,580 was generated across 89 deals.

In the banking sector, HSBC Bank Malta plc was down by 0.55% to €1.80, as a result of eight trades of 28,715 shares.

Its peer, Bank of Valletta plc recovered from yesterday’s declines as it was up 3.05% to €1.35. The equity was the most liquid of the session as €210,238 worth of shares traded across 39 transactions.

FIMBank plc followed suit with a 1.43% increase in value to €0.71 as 33,900 shares changed hands.

Malta International Airport plc returned to positive territory today, regaining 0.82% in value to close at €6.15. Three trades of 1,593 shares were executed.

In the telecommunications sector, GO plc traded heavily as 29,105 shares changed ownership over ten deals. The outcome was a 2.56% increase in value to €4.00.

Simonds Farsons Cisk plc posted a more modest gain of 0.65% to a price of €7.80, as four deals of 3.209 shares were recorded.

The worst performer of the session was International Hotel Investments plc, recording a 4.72% slump to €0.605 across three deals of 6,259 shares.

A sole deal of 552 shares shaved 1.82% off the price of MaltaPost plc, closing at €1.62.

Another single transaction had a contrasting impact on the price of Malita Investments plc as advanced by 0.57% to €0.875.

Also in the property sector a couple of deals of 15,000 Malta Properties Company plc pushed the price upwards by 3% to €0.515.

RS2 Software plchad a strong session, climbing 1.74% to €1.17 across five deals of a combined 15,000 shares.

Retail conglomerate PG plc also moved upwards by 0.71% as a result of three deals of 17,184 shares.

Yields in the Sovereign Debt market were up as seven of the 11 active issues traded lower. The 2.5% MGS 2036 (I) registered the largest fall in price, as it depreciated by 0.45% to €106. At the other end of the spectrum, the 2.1% MGS 2039 (I) advanced 0.88% to €100.49.

In the Corporate Debt market, a total of 14 issues where active of which five closed higher, and four headed south. The 5.1% 6PM Holdings plc Unsecured € 2025 topped the list of fallers as it closed 0.99% lower at €100.50. At the other end of the spectrum, the 4.35% SD Finance plc Unsecured € 2027 climbed 0.94% to a price of €103.99.
