Total Return Index in the red despite a surge in MIDI plc

MSE Daily Trading Report, January 11, 2019

The MSE Total Return Indexerased yesterday’s gain, as the index closed 0.414% lower at 8,903.539 points. A total of 12 issues were active of which; two headed north, while five headed in the opposite direction. A total turnover of €245,779 was registered spread over 45 deals.

MIDI plcheaded the list of gainers during the session, as the equity closed 10.83% higher at €0.665. A total of eight transactions generated a total turnover of €74,442. Similarly, telecommunications firm GO plc gained 0.49%, to close the session at €4.14.

In the banking sector, a single trade of 495 shares in HSBC Bank Malta plc dragged the equity 3.31% lower, to close the session at €1.75. Similarly, a single trade of 5,253 shares in International Hotel Investments plc saw the equity lose 2.44% of its value, to close at €0.60.

Elsewhere, retail conglomerate PG plc was also down. The equity lost 1.46% of its value, over a single trade worth €4,256.55, to close the session at €1.35.

Two trades in Plaza Centres plc of 5,000 shares in all, saw the equity lose 1.96%, to close at €1, while two trades in which 4,250 Medserv plc shares exchanged hands, saw the equity close the session 0.93% lower at €1.06.

Elsewhere, Bank of Valletta plc, Mapfre Middlesea plc, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, Malta International Airport plc and Trident Estates plc all were active but remained unchanged.

On the corporate debt front,15 issues were active during the session, three of which went up while fourheaded south. The 4% International Hotel Investments plc Secured € 2026 registered the highest rise in price, thatof 0.97%, to close off at €104.50.

In the sovereign debt market, gainers and losers tallied to four a piece while one closed unchanged. The 2.5% MGS 2036 (I) registered the largest advancement, as the bond price appreciated by 0.53% to close at €109.58.
