MSE Index returns to negative territory

MSE Daily Trading Report, 21 March, 2019

The MSE Total Return Indexclosed 0.151% loweras it ended the session at 9,417.227points. Activity was spread across 11 equities, as five gained ground and three headed south. Total turnover amounted to €505,149, generated over 61 deals.

In the banking industry, Bank of Valletta plc (BOV) erased the previous session’s gain, as it dropped 5.15% to €1.38. BOV was the most liquid equity as €108,398 worth of shares traded over 22 deals.

Its peer moved in the opposite direction, as single transaction of 1,000 HSBC Bank Malta plc shares pushed the price upwards by 0.61% to €1.64.

In the same sector, FIMBank plc also posted a gain of 1.45% to recapture the $0.70 price level. A total of three transactions of 109,450 shares were executed.

Telecommunications company, GO plc climbed 0.82% to €4.94, as a result of two deals of a combined 1,000 shares.

RS2 Software plctraded four times as 54,000 shares changed hands. The outcome was a 1.41% decline in price to €1.40.

Malta Properties Company plcwas the best performer as it soared 4.92% to €0.64. This was the result of nine deals of a combined 42,250 shares. The company published its financial statements for 2018, showing a profit before tax of €12.78 million, more than double the figure for 2017.

The board of directors has resolved to recommend the payment of a final net dividend of €0.01 per share, which shall be paid on June13, 2019 to all registered shareholders as at May 13, 2019. The company’s Annual General Meeting shall be held on June 11, 2019.

Main Street Complex plc was down 1.56% to €0.63 as five transactions of 44,400 shares were concluded throughout the session.

In the retail sector, PG plc advanced 0.73% to €1.38. Trading volume amounted to 47,122 shares over three deals.

Elsewhere, Plaza Centres plc, Malta International Airport plc and BMIT Technologies plc all traded flat at €1.02, €6.55 and €0.52 respectively.

In thecorporate debt market, 21issues were active,of whichfivetraded higherwhile another six closed in the opposite direction. The 6% International Hotel Investments plc € 2024registered the largest gain of 5% as it closed at €105. Conversely, the 4.4% Von der Heyden Group Finance plc Unsecured € 2024lost 1.47% to end the session at €100.5.

Inthe sovereign debt market, out of 15 active issues, nineadvanced while fourclosed in the red. The 4.3% MGS 2033 (I) was the top performer with a 0.3% increase in value to €132.29.
