MSE index loses ground

MSE Daily Trading Report, 8August, 2019

The MSE Total Return Index ended today’s session in the red as it closed 0.873% lower at 9,792.471 points. A total turnover of €500,995 was generated as 62 deals were executed. Active equities amounted to 14, of which five headed north while another six ended the session in negative territory.

In the banking sector, both Bank of Valletta plc (BOV) and HSBC Bank Malta plc (HSBC) closed in the red. BOV ended the session 0.93% lower at €1.06 as a result of14 transactions involving 67,515 shares.

Similarly, as a result of three deals of 2,000 HSBC shares,the shareprice declinedby 1.96%to €1.50. Total turnover stood at €3,025.

FIMBank plc announced that the Board of Directors held a meetingto approve the Consolidated and Bank’s Interim Financial Statements for the six months ending 30th June 2019.The results show a profit before tax figure of $9.6 million, compared to $7 million in the corresponding period last year.Three deals involving 44,908 shares were executed as the bank recorded the best performance for the day with a rise in price of 2.90% to $0.71.

Eight transactions involving 86,365 PG plcshares pushed its price upwards by 1.23% to €1.65, to end the session with a total turnover of €142,190.

Five equities were active in the property sector. Medserv plc closed 1.72% higher at €1.18 as one deal of 25,000 shares was executed. A total turnover of €29,500 was recorded.

Also ending the session on a positive note, Malta Properties Company plc advanced by 0.75% to €0.67 as 86,930 shares changed hands across four transactions. Total turnover amounted to €58,638.

MIDI plc also registered a gain of 0.70%, as it ended the session at €0.72. A total turnover of €29,719 was registered as 41,600 shares were spread between three deals.

On the other side of the spectrum, Malita Investments plc was down by 0.58%, to close off at €0.85. Four deals involving 28,228 shares generated a total turnover of €24,033. During yesterday’s board meeting, the Company’s condensed interim financial statements for the six-month period ending 30th June 2019 were approved. The Directors have also approved the payment of a netinterim dividend €0.00858per share, which shall be paid on 6th September 2019 to its shareholders.

The property company Santumas Shareholdings plc was also activeon slim volume,but closed unchanged at €1.64.

Six deals involving 26,245  International Hotel Investments plc shares, impacted its price with a 3.80%fall, to end the session at €0.76. A total turnover of €20,246 was generated.

Malta International Airport plc lost 3.23% during today’s session, as it closed at €7.50. A total turnover of €10,553 was generated as four deals involving 1,407 shares were executed.

Earlier today, the Board of Director of BMIT Technologies plc approved its Interim Financial Statements for the six months ending 30th June 2019. During today’s session, the company lost 0.95% to €0.52 as six deals involving 65,800 shares were executed. A total turnover of €34,688 was recorded.

Elsewhere, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc and RS2 Software plc were both active but closed unchanged at €10.00 and €1.96, respectively.

In the Corporate Debt Market,23 issues were active, of which nine registered gains while seven declined. The 4.85% Melite Finance plc Secured € 2028headed the list of gainers as it closed 0.97% higher at €104.

In the Sovereign Debt Market, out of 16 active issues, of which gainers and losers tallied to six. One deal pushed the 4.45% MGS 2032 (II) priceby 1.36%to €149.00, being the best performer in the market.
