MSE Index ends the week in the green

MSE Daily Trading Report, 17 April, 2020

The MSE Equity Total Return Index ended the session 0.762% higher to close at 8,069.366 points. A total of 10 equities were active, of which two declined while another six closed in positive territory. A total turnover of €321,286 was generated over 61 transactions.

In the banking industry, both active equities closed in positive territory. The two major local banks, Bank of Valletta plc and HSBC Bank Malta plc had a progressive trading session. BOV closed 0.99% higher to reach the price level of €1.02. Seven deals involving 16,798 shares were executed, worth €17,122. HSBC ended the session 3.19% higher at €0.97 over a sole deal of 10,300 shares. Total turnover stood at €9,991.

Today’s top performers were two – MIDI plc and PG plc. Both equities appreciated by 5.88% to end the session at €0.36 and €1.80 respectively. The former traded twice over a mix of 11,372 shares, worth €3,997. The latter executed 29,450 shares over seven transactions, generating a total turnover of €45,523.

Following suit, Malta Properties Company plc gained 5% as 29,450 shares were spread across three trades. The equity closed at the €0.525.

Malta International Airport plc advanced by 0.81% as 5,829 shares changed hands over 13 deals. The equity ended the session at €5.00 while a total turnover of €29,125 was recorded.

The most liquid traded equity was RS2 Software plc as total turnover amounted to €123,310. The equity registered the worst performance, as it declined by 1.55%, ending the session at €1.90. This was the result of five deals involving 64,900 shares.

Similarly, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc continued its negative performance by decreasing a further 0.58% to end the session at €8.50. A total turnover of €16,644 was generated as 1,955 shares changed ownership across eight transactions.

Six deals involving 32,940 International Hotel Investments plc shares did not impact the equity’s previous closing price of €0.595. The equity recorded a total turnover of €17,974.

BMIT Technologies plc, was also active but closed unchanged at €0.49. Nine deals involving 85,996 shares generated a total turnover of €42,138.

In the Sovereign Debt market, out of 12 active issues, 10 headed north while one closed in the 4.3% MGS 2022 (II) declined by 0.19%, to close at €109.10. Meanwhile, the 4.3% MGS 2033 (I) registered the best performance as it was up by 1.24%, ending the session at €151.35.

In the Corporate Debt market, 22 issues were active, of which eight advanced while another five lost ground. The 5.1% 1923 Investments plc Unsecured € 2024 headed the list of gainers as it closed 4.58% higher at €99.93. Conversely, the 4% Eden Finance plc Unsecured € 2027 declined by 2%, ending the session at €98.00.

In the Prospects MTF market, two issues were active of which both traded lower. The 4.75% Gillieru Investments plc Secured Bonds 2028 registered a loss of 1.02% to close at €97.00. On the other hand the 5% Smartcare Finance plc Secured € 2029 issuance closed 0.8% higher to end the session at €100.80.
