Malta International Airport plc – Traffic Results – January 2013

Traffic for 2013 at Malta Airport continued on the trend outlined in the previous nine months, with record figures for both passenger movements and average seat load factor registered in January.

Passenger movements for the first month of the year reached 179,243; which is an 8% increase when compared to the same month last year. The average seat load factor hit 66.3%, denoting an increase of 1.1 percentage points when compared to January 2012.

Aircraft movements for the month increased by 4.1% over the corresponding period last year. Likewise, the seat capacity for the month reached 270,400, i.e. an increase of 6.2% over January 2012. The maximum take-off weight (MTOW) was 4.9% higher than the corresponding period of 2012, whilst cargo and mail registered a staggering 29.3% increase on that recorded during the same month in 2012.

The Italian market registered the highest increase in absolute figures, with 5,808 more passenger movements, equivalent to an increase of 17.8% on those in January 2012. The UK market registered an increase of 3,892 passenger movements, resulting in an increase of 6.8%, whereas Libya has seen an increase of 2,115 passenger movements, translating in an increase of 45.6%. The French market registered an increase of 1,163 passenger movements, i.e. an increase of 20.8%. The German market retracted slightly and registered a negligible decrease of 42 passenger movements, i.e. 0.2% less than those in the corresponding period in 2012.
