US equities fell yesterday with the Dow Jones and the S&P 500 losing 0.2% and 0.4% respectively. Shares in the world’s largest soft drink company, Coca-Cola, fell 1.9% after the company reported disappointing earnings. Elsewhere, streaming content service Netflix was one of the best performers, up 1% due to recent success for its native content and fresh deals to distribute other media. The company’s shares are more than 21% higher in the past month.
European equities opened higher this morning with the FTSE 100 up 0.5% and the FTSE Eurofirst 300 0.3% higher. Investors are cautious ahead of publication of the minutes from Mark Carney’s first meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee as Governor of the Bank of England. Investors will find out how many of the nine policy makers voted for more stimulus spending, and whether the new governor joined them. In stock news, Fresnillo the silver miner was the best performer, gaining 3.4% after a well-received production update.
